CULTURE NEWS

  • Metro Detroit residents shared their favorite holiday traditions around Campus Martius — including festive parades, tree lightings, skating, and local treats — as families enjoyed seasonal events and winter drinks.  WXYZ
  • Wild Lights at the Detroit Zoo opens today with over a million lights set in animal-themed displays that span half the zoo. The event offers interactive features like a light-bright wall and themed stations including an African safari and an Australian station—ticket sales will help support the zoo's mission.  WXYZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ford Motor Co donated $30,000 to help upgrade Van Dyke Avenue between 18 Mile and 18 1/2 Mile roads under Sterling Heights’ Inspiring Green program. The city council approved the gift on November 18 and plans to plant up to 80 trees (including tulip and black gum trees) and install signage (recognizing Ford’s contribution) to improve the area.  Sterling Heights Sentry

  • The Lions said star tight end Sam LaPorta is likely out for the season after his surgery — Coach Dan Campbell added that cornerback DJ Reed and veteran defensive tackle Marcus Davenport are nearing a return for Sunday's game against the Giants.  FOX 2 Detroit
