- ➤ The Furniture Bank of Metro Detroit launched its 1,000 Beds Challenge to help children who sleep on floors get a complete bed set for $250. The campaign will support up to 1,000 bed sets for 20,000 kids in metro Detroit — providing a basic need and hope for better sleep. WXYZ
- ➤ At a ceremony on Nov. 13, local teacher and Vietnam War Operation Babylift survivor David LeDuc honored military service members at the Warren Consolidated Schools Career Prep Center in Sterling Heights—marking the 20th annual celebration as veterans and students exchanged gratitude during the event led by the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post No. 169. - ➤ Christine Roperti of Roperti's Turkey Farm in Livonia said her 4,000 turkeys are selling well ahead of Thanksgiving because her birds are kept safe from bird flu—she will only raise prices if rising feed and packaging costs force a change. Roperti noted that while reports show higher nationwide turkey prices, her careful methods have kept increases to a minimum. WXYZ
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Oakland Community Health Network will manage adult crisis care services in Pontiac starting in January, ending its long-running partnership with Common Ground that began in 2012—its new plan aims to streamline care for adults. The network plans to hire about 100 people as the change is phased in over most of next year—and the move may affect up to 175 current workers as Common Ground loses $13 million in funding. WXYZ
