GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oakland County has launched the Safe Tonight Shelter Fund to help homeless people find a warm place to sleep at night in Pontiac. The program will link individuals to after-hours shelter spaces at local churches—such as New Birth International Church—that will offer beds and hot meals starting December 1.  WXYZ
  • Travelers at Detroit Metro Airport faced 270+ delays and over 100 cancellations on Monday as the government shutdown disrupted holiday travel, and expert Jill Jones advised using airline apps for fast refund alerts + updates. Movement in Washington on Sunday led to a Senate-passed spending bill now heading to the House, a step that may reopen the government before Thanksgiving.  FOX 2 Detroit

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ford Racing announced its global season launch event at Michigan Central Station during Detroit Auto Show week, set for Jan. 15 (marking its first Detroit appearance). The event will feature drivers, team employees, dealers and fans, and Red Bull F1 will reveal new liveries as Ford returns to F1 after more than 20 years (signaling a major comeback).  WXYZ
  • Detroit Red Wings Alumni will face Team STAHLS in a charity hockey game on Friday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Civic Ice Arena in St. Clair Shores. The event will honor veterans and benefit Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs—funds will be raised through auctions and food sales, with notable alumni including Darren McCarty and Vladimir Konstantinov taking part.  WXYZ
