The $1.9 million effort replaced an aging bridge + added a nearly half-mile nonmotorized trail, improved fishing areas and water access + stabilized the island banks for long-term sustainability. - ➤ Gas prices in Michigan now average $3.08 per gallon, up 29 cents from last week—metro Detroit prices rose 16 cents to $3.00 per gallon after a fire and power outage at a BP refinery in Whiting reduced output. WXYZ

- ➤ Amid a government shutdown, the USDA announced that federal food aid will not be sent on Nov. 1—Michigan paused SNAP benefits affecting 1.4 million households, and metro Detroit food banks are ready to help those in need. Local resources have been listed for residents seeking food support. WXYZ
- ➤ Daylight Saving Time will end on Nov. 2 (when clocks fall back from 2 a.m. to 1 a.m.), giving residents an extra hour of sleep and an earlier sunrise. The practice began in 1918 for fuel conservation and is set by federal law to continue until clocks change ahead again in March. FOX 2 Detroit
