  • Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel has appointed Erin Freers-Cole, a former chief trial lawyer with more than 18 years of legal experience, as the new public defender who will help residents afford legal representation. She will replace retiring Tom Tomko and lead the office with her strong courtroom expertise.  The Detroit News

  • At Comerica Park, Tigers fans watched the last regular season home game on Sunday as the team lost 6-5 to the Atlanta Braves, dropping their American League Central lead to one game. Fans remain hopeful that a win in upcoming games will secure a playoff berth — concerns linger over the limited trade deadline activity.  The Detroit News
