  • The Southeast Michigan Ford Dealers will launch a food drive—part of Ford's Global Caring Month—to collect over 20,000 pounds of non-perishable food from local dealerships starting September 15 and running until September 25.  WXYZ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new study shows that rising prices are causing metro Detroit customers to dine out less and choose more affordable meals—restaurant owners say the lower spending is affecting their sales.  WXYZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Childcare providers said a state voucher payment glitch delayed funds and forced many owners to borrow money to cover costs—one owner noted thousands in lost income while statements confirmed that payments for the August 10–23 period were issued yesterday even if some were only partial. The state explained the error in its system and is working to ensure these issues do not recur.  FOX 2 Detroit
  • Taylor High School's new bathroom policy restricts students from using restrooms 10 minutes before class ends to cut down on vaping incidents—administrators use vape detectors and cameras to monitor activity. Some students claim the rule has caused health issues such as UTIs and bleeding and want more staff support for emergencies.  FOX 2 Detroit

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency announced that about 350,000 residents must repay pandemic unemployment benefits starting today—after a legal pause on collections ended following a settlement in May. The agency seeks to collect $2.7 billion from those who were overpaid during COVID-19.  WXYZ
