BUSINESS NEWS

  • DTE Energy is installing smart devices across southeastern Michigan to reduce outages and keep people safe—these devices can shut off power when wires fall so no one is hurt. Crews will install more than 30 devices a week until the end of this year, with plans to have over 1,200 devices in place as part of a five-year plan to fully automate the grid by 2029.  WXYZ

CRIME NEWS

  • Mark Newsome, a Macomb County man, pleaded no contest to manslaughter for fatally beating his roommate over a Taco Bell dispute last year in Roseville—he was sentenced Wednesday to 5–15 years in prison with credit for 581 days.  FOX 2 Detroit
  • Frank Prezzato, 68, of St. Clair Shores pleaded guilty to voting twice in the August 2024 primary election—he cast both an absentee and in-person ballot and was given a six-month delayed probation sentence that will dismiss the charges upon successful completion.  The Detroit News
