ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Thursday, July 31, a 41-year-old driver from Houston lost control on wet roads at 11 Mile and jackknifed his semi-truck into a median wall on I-696, causing a fuel spill while crews worked to clear the scene—no injuries were reported.  FOX 2 Detroit

CRIME NEWS

  • A Sterling Heights man, Michael Dedaj (28), was charged with ramming his Dodge Charger into another vehicle during a road-rage dispute at Puff Cannabis in Utica and was arraigned Wednesday in Shelby Township with a $30,000 cash bond while his next court dates are set for Aug. 11 and Aug. 18.  The Detroit News
  • Thieves broke into game shops in Sterling Heights and stole high-value Pokémon cards in a smash-and-grab heist caught on camera that caused thousands of dollars in lost merchandise.  FOX 2 Detroit
  • A masked thief broke into First Edition Finds—a family-owned card shop in Sterling Heights—early Wednesday and stole about $50,000 worth of high-value Pokémon cards, with owner Jonathan Gappy offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to the suspect's arrest.  WXYZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sterling Heights revamped its old Adopt-A-Road program into Inspiring Green in January 2024 to drive tree planting and native landscaping along roads. Local groups and businesses have joined the effort and a Barbadian sorority regularly helps with cleanups (three to four sessions yearly) to support reforestation and beautification.  Metromode

  • Today marks one year since Michigan native Paul Whelan was freed after spending more than five years in Russia on espionage charges.
