- ➤ Travion Smith, an 18-year-old from Detroit, was convicted for a 2023 Sterling Heights crash that killed Faith Gumma and her unborn baby and left her husband paralyzed—he will be sentenced on Aug. 26 after the jury verdict on July 25. FOX 2 Detroit
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ MDOT is asking for public feedback on changes at the busy I-75—8 Mile interchange near Hazel Park as it plans to remove a flyover and add a lane to ease congestion. Drivers noted problems with merging and traffic, and a public meeting will be held Tuesday, July 29 at Hazel Park District Library from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. WXYZ
- ➤ Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib introduced a bill Friday that would require FEMA to repair flood-damaged basements from severe flooding in metro Detroit in 2021 and 2023. The measure will also cover furnace and water heater repairs during emergencies and is expected to move to the House with hopes for bipartisan support. WXYZ
