Good morning, Sterling Heights.

Metro Detroit native Branden McRill (Michelin star alumnus of a New York restaurant) is returning home to open Lola's Taco Bar in the former Boston Market space along Mack Ave in Grosse Pointe Woods.

He partners with chef Brandon Zarb and Mel Fuechtmann (who will manage day-to-day operations) to offer affordable street tacos with a range of options, and the restaurant will open after Labor Day.

Gas prices in Michigan fell 12 cents from last week and 50 cents from this time last year, with drivers now paying an average of $3.15 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel—metro Detroit drivers pay about $3.20 per gallon.

For a full 15-gallon tank, the cost is around $47, nearly $10 lower than record highs from last year.

Sterling Heights officials explored creating a city-run trash service after residents complained about Priority Waste at a July 15 council meeting, and Councilwoman Deanna Koski proposed studying models from nearby Warren — officials aim to fix issues with the current 10-year contract. City Manager Mark Vanderpool will prepare a feasibility report in two months, and if approved, the new service could be operational within 10 months.
