🏘️ Community
Fireworks season is nearly here in metro Detroit as first responders warn that fireworks can cause serious injuries if safety laws are ignored — state law requires buyers to be 18 and restricts use to private property.
Local officials advise shoppers to use licensed dealers and properly dispose of fireworks to prevent accidents.
🚨 Crime
A St. Clair Shores man was sentenced to 25 to 35 years in prison for shooting his brother at a family reunion in Eastpointe on Aug.
12, 2023—he will serve an extra five years for carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm charges and was found to be a habitual fourth offender with a previous serious felony conviction.
🎓 Education
Graebner Elementary in Sterling Heights is undergoing a complete reconstruction after a groundbreaking held on June 5 as part of a $550 million bond approved in May 2023—upgrading classrooms with new entry systems, state of the art technology, and flexible learning spaces.
Students and staff will be moved to Rose Kidd Elementary for the 2025—2026 school year while improvements continue.
🏥 Health
Legal experts advise Sterling Heights residents to prepare a living will and choose a medical power of attorney to guide care decisions when they cannot speak for themselves—this planning helps reduce uncertainty during stressful medical situations.
Attorneys note that while a living will explains treatment wishes, only a medical power of attorney holds legal weight in critical care decisions.
