- ➤ City officials and residents gathered on May 1 to celebrate the grand opening of the new community garden at James C. Nelson Park at 2775 15 Mile Road in Sterling Heights. The park now features over 115 garden beds, a children’s garden, butterfly conservatory, bee apiary, microforest, ADA compliant pathways and new seating — upgrades designed to support gardening workshops and school field trips — that promote environmental education and public health. - ➤ A 30-year-old suspect, Jose Leonardo Aguilar from Mount Clemens was arrested after breaking into the Blue Ox Credit Union ATM in Sterling Heights and now faces felony charges of safe breaking and conspiracy—U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a hold on him ahead of his probable cause hearing at 1 p.m. May 14. - ➤ At Grissom Middle School, eighth-grade students held a mock trial in the media center on April 30 that reenacted the 'State of Oregon versus Langley Parker' case where a prank was simulated to cause a manslaughter charge. Teacher Brendan Roosa directed the exercise and local media watched — part of the district's effort to teach courtroom procedures — as students learned how the legal system works.
