  • The 13th annual Bocce with the Brothers fundraiser will be held Friday, April 11th at Villa Penna on Hayes Road in Sterling Heights starting at 5 p.m.—tickets cost $75 and all proceeds will support Capuchin Ministries, which has fed the hungry in Detroit for nearly 100 years.  Sterling Heights Sentry

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Macomb Community College students will not see a tuition increase for the Fall through Spring/Summer academic year—but their student service and IT fees will rise, adding about $27.50 per semester. The college is also seeking a liquor license for its South Campus in Warren after the Michigan House passed HB 4065 on March 20 to streamline alcohol service at campus events.  Sterling Heights Sentry

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers in southeast Michigan have seen fewer crashes since a hands-free driving law was passed almost two years ago — state data show a 19% drop in distracted driving cases and that nearly 14,000 crashes, 7,800 injuries, and 63 deaths have been avoided. Police in Troy and state officials plan to step up enforcement during Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April to help save more lives.  WXYZ
