GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Emergency repairs spurred by extreme weather forced earlier-than-planned ramp closures and lane reductions at the I-96/M-14 and I-275 interchange, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. The westbound I-94/M-14 ramp to Shelton Road is now one lane while the southbound I-275 ramp to westbound M-14 remains closed until November.  FOX 2 Detroit
  • Former fire chief John Childs, celebrated for his 36-year career, was honored when City Council approved naming the new training center at Fire Station No. 5 on Ryan Road on March 3 to reflect his record in training and leadership.  Sterling Heights Sentry
  • The Michigan Department of Transportation is testing new flashing wrong-way signs on ramps in metro Detroit to reduce crashes. The signs — proven effective in Grand Rapids with a 61 percent drop in wrong-way entries — will expand to more areas in a couple of months.  WXYZ
  • Ronnie Hearns, son of boxing legend Tommy Hearns, was named guardian and conservator at an Oakland County probate court hearing on Wednesday, March 11. The court addressed family disputes, tax issues, and bankruptcy concerns to secure his father's personal and financial care.  FOX 2 Detroit
