GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local retailers are urging lawmakers to scrap Michigan’s 50-year bottle deposit law as mounting costs for return machines and cleaning burden small businesses; a University study found that recycling rates have dropped since COVID and suggests funds be used to improve drop-off options. WXYZ
- ➤ Macomb County’s emergency dispatch center, the state’s third largest facility, uses a 20 ft by 50 ft video wall and 350 camera feeds to monitor severe weather, and director Brandon Lewis said the center — covering all areas except Warren and nearly 800,000 residents — will guide responses tonight. - ➤ Travelers heading to Detroit Metro Airport experienced normal security screening today despite news of lengthy lines at other hubs due to reduced TSA staffing from a partial government shutdown (TSA agents have not been paid since Feb. 14). Experts recommend arriving early to avoid delays during spring break travel. WXYZ
