BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sheetz paused its plan to build a gas station and fast food restaurant on part of the former printing press site at the southeast corner of Mound Road and Metropolitan Parkway after discussions with local stakeholders - Sterling Heights City Council postponed the public hearing set for today, while the company remains committed to expanding its presence in the community.  The Detroit News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Economic development leaders at Macomb Community College in Warren said local defense efforts must diversify from ground vehicles to include air and space. The panel met Monday (March 2) amid shifting military budgets, citing a $6B sector and urging businesses to explore high-tech opportunities.  The Detroit News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Construction started today at 9 a.m. for two ramps at the M-39 and I-94 interchange, and northbound M-39 to westbound I-94, along with southbound ramps, are closed — drivers should plan alternate routes to avoid delays.  WXYZ
  • Construction on I-696 and I-75 began Saturday morning and affected 75,000 to 100,000 drivers (commuter delays are expected) as ramp closures will continue through early summer.  WXYZ
  • The Michigan Attorney General's Office warned residents today about a toll road scam sending texts that mimic notices from the 36th District Court in Detroit - residents should verify suspicious messages directly with the court.  WXYZ
