  • Summer camp registration is underway across metro Detroit as YMCA day and overnight camps and Oakland County Parks Outdoor Discovery Camps fill up quickly, especially in Troy. Parents are urged (by officials) to register soon to secure a spot for a range of arts and outdoor programs this summer.  WXYZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sheetz has paused its plans to build on a southeast Sterling Heights site at the corner of Mound Rd - Metro Pkwy because of concerns over zoning and traffic. The company remains committed to finding the right spot, and a City Council hearing on March 3 will review the situation.  Sterling Heights Sentry

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sterling Heights artist David Chesnutt continues to create hot-rod cartoons despite a recent heart attack + his custom poster will be featured at the 73rd Detroit Autorama from Friday, Feb. 27 to Sunday at Huntington Place.  Sterling Heights Sentry

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Michigan dropped by 13 cents from last week according to AAA, with drivers paying $2.85 per gallon statewide and $2.92 in metro Detroit - prices now lower than last month and last year. Drivers in Sterling Heights may see lower rates at local pumps today.  WXYZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sterling Heights City Council approved a $770,000 purchase agreement on Feb. 17 for nearly 14 acres of wooded land on Utica Road west of Hayes. The move aims to boost green space preservation (millage passed in 2024) and faces a March 17 public hearing with closing before Sept. 1, 2028.  Sterling Heights Sentry
